Call for Contributions: Special Issue on Microprocessors at 50

In November 1971, the microprocessor was born. IEEE Micro is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the microprocessor in November 2021. We invite writers of all kinds–novices to experts, designers to users, undergraduate students to experienced researchers–to submit short pieces (one paragraph to two pages) on one or more of the following topics:

  • My favorite microprocessor
  • Special memories with a microprocessor
  • The coolest feature in microprocessors
  • The coolest thing that happened in the history of the microprocessor
  • A big story in the history of the microprocessor
  • A special story in the evolution of the microprocessor

Please send your favorite microprocessor stories, pictures, and anecdotes to 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐩𝟓𝟎@𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥.𝐜𝐨𝐦 by 10 July 2021. Selected stories will be printed in IEEE Micro magazine or displayed on the IEEE Micro website.

In addition, please vote for your favorite microprocessor at https://forms.gle/57CWkUg4wGVazxM69. Please cast your vote for one processor in each decade and an overall pick for all five decades together. If your favorite processor is not in the list provided, please list it under “Write-in (Other).” You could optionally add a brief statement (max 50 words) in support of your choice.
